Produce Garden
The produce garden is located at the University of Waterloo Environmental Reserve. The youngest of our gardens, this site was established in 2019 after creating a partnership with the Coordinator of the University Community Garden, which was already developed at this location. We have named this garden to reflect our focus on growing produce for cooking and preserving workshops, and to grow vegetables to contribute to the Indigenous Student Centre weekly soup and bannock lunch. Additionally, food from the produce garden is harvested weekly and contributes to our food basket program, which we provide in collaboration with White Owl Native Ancestry Association to participants in the region. A mixture of canned and preserved products from the Wisahkotewinowak gardens throughout the seasons are also incorporated into these baskets.
This year the garden includes tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, potatoes, squash, root vegetables including parsnip and turnip, as well as spinach and lettuce.
